ELEMENTARY MONTESSORI CURRICULUM
(Ages 6-12)
The
Elementary Grades 1-6 also work together in a Montessori environment using
advanced Montessori materials. Students are exposed to situations that help develop
them develop communication skills, encourages
fundamental motivation, spontaneous activity and self-education.
Maria Montessori characterizes the six to twelve year old child, as being in the second plane of development. It is now the age of reason. In the first six years, the facts were important and necessary to adapting to the environment. Now the child is deeply interested in the why and how of everything.
A vast elementary curriculum covers:
- mathematics
- geometry
- algebra
- reading & writing
- literature
- grammar
- geography
- zoology
- botany
- chemistry
- geology
- astronomy
- music
- art
- drama
- physical education

The Montessori teacher is there to present the
materials to the child in small groups or individually, according to his/her
needs and development. This is
also the age where the moral foundation is set into place. The children learn
to be responsible for their actions. Every
year the students are given standardized tests which helps us to determine
their working level in each basic skill.
Parents receive a copy of these test scores, and we retain a copy in our
student files.
